Efficient Data Storage: Experts Recommend Hybrid and Flash Arrays

At year-end 2016, Russian market of data storage systems got a boost. According to IDC EMEA, the total volume of sales, in capacity terms, increased by 35.7%, and in monetary terms — by 0.5%. This means that manufacturers offer their clients more memory for the same money. Experts from ICL — KME CS, NetApp, and Veeam informed the participants about technologies that are most demanded in the market and their key benefits.
In Izhevsk, ICL — KME CS, NetApp, and Veeam held a joint workshop dedicated to the possibilities of NetApp and Veeam solutions for data backup, storage and availability.

Experts from NetApp presented enhanced data storage systems NetApp FAS. This batch of products has enhanced scalability capabilities, which makes it possible to answer the growing business demands and make the best use of opportunities for long-term investments in information infrastructure.

Further to the topic of data availability, experts from Veeam told the participants about Veeam Backup & Replication — the company’s development that permits one to get good results in data backup and restoration. The participants were also acquainted with the revised version of Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 that had entered the market at the end of 2016. That is the first solution integrating with Windows Server 2016 and Hyper-V 2016 as well as with the most-up-to-date versions of Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft SQL Server.

Simultaneous use of solutions developed by different manufacturers as a means to increase corporate data availability was one more topic of the Workshop. Pavel Churin, an expert from ICL — KME CS, shared his experience in implementation of disaster-proof solutions providing fault tolerance for business critical services using databases created in Microsoft SQL Server and databases on VMware.

«Present-day companies increasingly use virtualization technologies to scale their computing capacities. Consequently, data protection in a virtual infrastructure becomes one of the focus areas. Besides, the volume of the data stored permanently increases, and the strict requirements specified for continuity and stability of business processes urge the companies to pay greater attention to selection of backup solutions,» says Pavel. «Simultaneous use of NetApp and Veem technologies having great integration capabilities enables one to efficiently organize backup and restoration processes by reducing the risks of idle time and loss of data.»
